In 1905, the Catholic population of Raymond had grown to the degree that the community decided to form their own parish and build a church. Previously they had attended Immaculate Conception Parish in Gilbertville. It is believed Rev. John Nemmers of Gilbertville celebrated the first Mass on July 4, 1906. The Rev. H.J. Rottler became the first priest serving the parish from 1906-1913.
